Snow deja vu? Winter storm watch in effect starting Wednesday

Snow deja vu? Winter storm watch in effect starting Wednesday

Last Thursday’s sleet, ice and snowfall took many people across the state by surprise, causing schools and businesses to close early, creating hours of gridlock on the roadways and hazardous driving conditions that led to more than 100 accidents and three fatal wrecks. Alabamians in the north part of the state may see much of the same less than a week later.

The national weather service in Birmingham has issued a winter storm watch in effect from Wednesday afternoon through early Thursday morning for the following counties:

Bibb, Blount, Calhoun, Clay, Cherokee, Etowah, Fayette, Hale, Greene, Jefferson, Marion, Pickens, Shelby, St. Clair, Talladega, Tuscaloosa, Walker and Winston

TRUSSVILLE, ALA. (WBRC) - It's called "Love your neighbor" and organizers are hoping you listen up!
A food drive Saturday in Trussville aims to fill up shelves at T.E.A.M, or the Trussville Ecumenical Assistive Ministry. Several Trussville churches are a part of the organization.

Specific items needed are cooking oil, flour, corn meal, sugar, canned meat and fish, dried beans, cereal, breakfast food, peanut butter, jelly, saltines and mac & cheese.

The kick-off is Saturday, Feb. 12 from 2-4 p.m. in the parking lot of First Methodist Church of Trussville.  Organizers have made it very convenient: you stay in your car and simply drop-off items in a drive-thru fashion.
